what is a body scan?

  • a body scan is simply taking a few seconds to hone in on each part of your body, make note of how it is feeling and simply acknowledge it.

how is it different than meditation?

  • in meditation, your focus is on the breath. in a body scan, your focus is on individual parts of the body and how they feel.

how do you do one?

  • you can do a body scan anywhere and without anyone guiding you. if you are new to this practice, find a comfortable seated or laying down position and listen to the guided body scan meditation provided.

  • when you feel proficient with doing this on your own, make a habit of checking in with yourself a few times a day- wherever you and and amidst whatever you are doing.

what are the benefits of a body scan?

  • doing a body scan builds connection with your body, brings awareness to different sensations within it, is a practice of embodiment, an opportunity to build trust with your body, hone your skill of listening to it and an important step in learning to regulate your nervous system.
