what is a body scan?
a body scan is simply taking a few seconds to hone in on each part of your body, make note of how it is feeling and simply acknowledge it.
how is it different than meditation?
in meditation, your focus is on the breath. in a body scan, your focus is on individual parts of the body and how they feel.
how do you do one?
you can do a body scan anywhere and without anyone guiding you. if you are new to this practice, find a comfortable seated or laying down position and listen to the guided body scan meditation provided.
when you feel proficient with doing this on your own, make a habit of checking in with yourself a few times a day- wherever you and and amidst whatever you are doing.
what are the benefits of a body scan?
doing a body scan builds connection with your body, brings awareness to different sensations within it, is a practice of embodiment, an opportunity to build trust with your body, hone your skill of listening to it and an important step in learning to regulate your nervous system.
